NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is eligible to play beginning in the third game of the regular season. Vick was released from federal custody July 20 after serving 18 months of a 23-month sentence for his role in running a dogfighting ring.

Beginning August 31st to September 13 the US Open of Tennis will be held in Queens, New York. This is the last tournament in the Grand Slam of tennis. Last years men's winner was Roger Federer from Switzerland and the women's winner was Serena Williams.
